Why We Don't Use Magnesium Stearate

Turn over most supplement bottles and you will find ingredients that are not the active one: magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose. Here is what they are, and what we do instead.

What they do

These ingredients are there for manufacturing, not for you.

  • Magnesium stearate is a lubricant that stops powder sticking to machines.
  • Silicon dioxide is a flow agent that keeps powder moving smoothly.
  • Microcrystalline cellulose is a filler that bulks out capsules so they fill evenly.

They let factories run faster and more consistently.

Are they harmful?

At the levels used in supplements, these additives are approved for food use in the EU and are generally considered safe. We are not claiming otherwise. Our reason is simpler: we would rather use as few synthetic processing aids as possible.

What we use instead

Capsule production does need help: powder has to flow evenly and fill each capsule consistently. Instead of synthetic additives, we use natural alternatives. Rice flour keeps the fill even, and bamboo extract is a natural source of silica that helps the powder flow. Our capsule shells are made from HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a plant-based cellulose rather than gelatine.

What's in our capsules

  • Spermidine: 300 mg wheat germ extract providing 3 mg spermidine, rice flour, bamboo extract, HPMC capsule. Contains wheat (gluten).
  • TMG: 500 mg trimethylglycine, rice flour, bamboo extract, HPMC capsule.

Both are made in Sweden, and we list every ingredient on every product page, because you should be able to see exactly what you are taking.

And the liquid?

Our Liposomal Resveratrol is a liquid, so it needs some supporting ingredients: water, glycerol, phospholipids to form the liposomes, malic acid and rosemary extract. Each one has a job, and they are all listed on the product page.

Because what we leave out matters as much as what we put in.

Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
